Fostering Connections: An Inside Look at Regent Park Neighbourhood Association with Gail Lynch

In an interview with Regent Park TV, Gail Lynch, a prominent figure in Regent Park and a dedicated member of the Regent Park Neighbourhood Association (RPNA), shared her views on a wide range of subjects including the role of the RPNA in the ongoing revitalization of Regent Park, the importance of civic engagement, and her vision of a more inclusive, equitable, and cohesive neighbourhood.



The RPNA is a resident-led volunteer group committed to building an inclusive and vibrant community through advocacy, community-building, and communication. Gail delves into the RPNA's efforts and its challenges as the Regent Park Revitalization enters its final stages.

The RPNA has been instrumental in forming the Community Benefits Coalition, which includes the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) and condo residents, supported by local community organizations. This coalition aims to leverage equitable local economic development opportunities and community benefits from Regent Park’s last phases of revitalization.

In our candid and impactful interview, Gail discusses the defining pillars of the Social Development Plan (SDP) and her involvement with it. She unpacks some of the hurdles the SDP has faced, including the complexities and challenges arising as Regent Park's revitalization progresses. With Phases 4 and 5 underway, Gail sheds light on the evolving role of the RPNA and the conflicts that have affected it, particularly regarding the SDP and the City of Toronto.

When asked about the future of the RPNA, Gail remains hopeful and determined, emphasizing the association's ongoing efforts to foster community cohesion and resilience through better communication, and a willingness to get beyond the natural pitfalls of any social undertaking. She passionately speaks about the RPNA's current initiatives and expresses her vision for a united and thriving Regent Park.

I had moved into Regent Park only a few days before I saw the pink, fuchsia, strawberry, indigo, yellow, green, neck streamers and sparkling robes worn by children, parents, aunts, uncles, and elders as they marched passed my kitchen door. Meet Your Neighbourhood Police Officers – PC Mircea Biga and PC Farzad Ghotbi

Community-based policing is a proactive law enforcement strategy that focuses on building ties and working closely with a community’s members to create partnerships and plans for preventing and reducing crime. While community policing will look differently depending on the community it serves, a central feature is that the same officer patrols and works in the same area on a permanent basis. Currently there are 17 community-based police programs in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), but what most people don’t know is that Toronto’s community policing started in Regent Park in May of 2017.
