Regent Park SDP Stakeholders Table Meeting May 2025

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, residents, community leaders, and local organizations came together in the Community Living Room at Daniels Spectrum for the latest Regent Park Social Development Plan(SDP) Stakeholders Table meeting.

The event served as a vital platform for cross-sector collaboration and community-driven dialogue, with a shared goal of fostering a safer, more inclusive, and opportunity-rich Regent Park. The Stakeholders Table, held quarterly, is a cornerstone of the SDP process. It provides an open space where progress is assessed, concerns are addressed, and new ideas are generated—all in support of the SDP’s central aim: to build social cohesion and inclusion in Regent Park.

Attendees heard updates from the plan’s four working groups—Community Building, Communications, Employment &Economic Development, and the Safety Network. Each group shared ongoing initiatives and highlighted the collaborative efforts underway to address local challenges, such as youth safety,economic opportunity, and neighbourhood engagement. Residents also had the opportunity to provide direct feedback, helping shape the future direction of the SDP through shared insights, lived experiences, and community-based recommendations.

To energize the room and engage attendees in a creative way, organizers introduced a lively SDP-themed game of Jeopardy. Participants were split into three teams and challenged with questions related to the four working groups and Regent Park itself. The game blended fun and learning,encouraging teamwork while deepening participants’ understanding of their community and the SDP process.Food and child care were provided, helping to ensure that the event remained accessible and welcoming to all.

The atmosphere was one of mutual respect, open dialogue, and a shared commitment to community transformation.Regent Park TV was on-site to capture the voices, energy, and collective spirit of the evening. As Regent Park continues to evolve, meetings like these serve as powerful reminders that meaningful change starts with community.

Regent Park Portrayed in Film and Television

Toronto has a rich history of being a go-to shooting location for many television and film production companies. Some notable films shot here over the years include Good Will Hunting (1997), Billy Madison (1998), American Psycho (2000), and X-Men (2000). Regent Park has also had its share of showcases in film. This article aims to review the general content of movie dramas and televisions shows shot in Regent and explore their relationship to the community. Clement Virgo is a director, producer, and writer from Montego Bay, Jamaica. He was born in 1966 and moved to the Regent Park area in Toronto in 1977. Meet Your Neighbourhood Police Officers – PC Mircea Biga and PC Farzad Ghotbi

Community-based policing is a proactive law enforcement strategy that focuses on building ties and working closely with a community’s members to create partnerships and plans for preventing and reducing crime. While community policing will look differently depending on the community it serves, a central feature is that the same officer patrols and works in the same area on a permanent basis. Currently there are 17 community-based police programs in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), but what most people don’t know is that Toronto’s community policing started in Regent Park in May of 2017. We know this because the original officers involved in setting up the Regent Park community policing program continue to work here today.
